How the result is calculated

The video ID (11 characters) is extracted from watch?v=, youtu.be, shorts, embed and live links, then googleapis.com/youtube/v3/videos?part=snippet&id=… is requested with your key (one request per 20 videos, one quota unit). From snippet.tags each video gets: the tag count and the total characters as an estimate (each tag’s length, +2 for a tag containing a space because the quote marks count, + the commas between them) against the 500-character limit, and the average length. Across several videos, how many videos each tag appears in is counted (case-insensitive) and a CSV is exported in order.

Limits: You need your own API key (free from Google Cloud), because a shared key on the site would be exposed and exhaust the quota. I did not test the tool with a real key: the response shape is based on the API documentation and on test data I constructed. The 500-character calculation is an estimate of Google’s documented rule, so verify in YouTube Studio. Some videos’ tags are hidden or absent so the API does not return them. Per Google, tags have a weak effect on discovery; the tool is for analysis, not a ranking guarantee.

FAQ
