QR Code Generator

Generate a QR code (ISO 18004) for a link, text, Wi-Fi, vCard, MECARD, email, SMS, location, WhatsApp or an event with a local encoder and L/M/Q/H error correction, a self-test and SVG and PNG download.

How the result is calculated

The content is converted to bits in numeric mode (digits only), alphanumeric mode (0–9, upper-case A–Z, space and SP$%*+-./:) or byte mode (UTF-8, with ECI 26 when non-ASCII characters such as Arabic are present). The smallest version (1–40) that fits the data at the requested error-correction level is chosen. Codewords are split into blocks, Reed-Solomon codewords are computed over GF(256) (polynomial 0x11D), interleaved and placed in a zig-zag around the finder, timing and alignment patterns. All eight masks are applied and the lowest penalty is chosen (N1 adjacent runs, N2 2×2 blocks, N3 finder-like patterns, N4 dark balance) then the format and version information (BCH) is written. The quiet zone is 4 modules. The self-test decodes the image with BarcodeDetector when available.

Limits: Scan it with your phone before printing: the self-test only works in browsers that support BarcodeDetector (some do not). Micro QR, Kanji and structured-append symbols are not supported, and modes are not mixed inside one code (so a code may be slightly larger than optimal). Light-on-dark (inverted) colours, low contrast or a large logo reduce scan success, and the tool warns about them. There is no PDF export (use SVG or print the page). Masks follow the standard; very few scanners may behave differently.

FAQ

Which error-correction level should I choose?

M suits most uses; choose Q or H if you add a logo or will print it where it may get damaged.

Does the code work offline?

Yes; the code carries your data itself and goes through no server, though a link it points to needs the internet.
