Sitemap.xml Generator

Turn a URL list into a valid sitemap.xml: https, www and trailing-slash normalization, de-duplication, XML escaping, lastmod dates, and automatic splitting at 50,000 URLs with a sitemapindex file.

How the result is calculated

Each line is parsed with a URL parser: https:// is added when the scheme is missing, only http and https are accepted, the # fragment is dropped, the host is normalized per your options (force https, add/remove www, add/remove trailing slash), and non-ASCII characters are encoded. Duplicates are removed after normalization. XML is escaped (& ' " < >). Output is split automatically at 50,000 URLs or 50MB (52,428,800 bytes) uncompressed per the sitemaps.org protocol, and a sitemapindex pointing to the parts is generated. lastmod values are checked as W3C datetime (YYYY-MM-DD, or with time and zone).

Limits: The tool does not fetch your site nor verify that URLs work or are indexable. Image, video and hreflang extensions are not supported. Google ignores priority and changefreq so they are not generated; an accurate lastmod is the useful one. Download produces separate XML files (no ZIP). All URLs must be on the same host and protocol where the file is hosted.

FAQ

What are the limits of one sitemap file?

50,000 URLs and 50MB uncompressed; beyond that it is split and an index file is used.

Do I need priority and changefreq?

No; Google ignores them. An accurate lastmod that changes only when the page really changes is better.

Where do I put the file?

At the site root, announce it with a Sitemap: line in robots.txt and submit it in Search Console.
