JSON Formatter & Validator

Format, minify or sort JSON with precise error line and column, duplicate key detection, exact large numbers, and optional comments and trailing commas.

How the result is calculated

The tool parses JSON with a parser written to RFC 8259 (not JSON.parse): it reports the line and column of the error, keeps numbers exactly as written so values above 2^53 lose no precision, detects duplicate keys (which JSON.parse hides), and keeps key order unless sorting is requested. Comments and trailing commas (JSONC) can be allowed.

Limits: Full JSON5 (unquoted keys, single quotes) is not supported, and there is no format conversion or JSONPath. Nesting is limited to 200 levels.

FAQ

Why does the error differ from my browser?

We compute line and column ourselves; engines word and position errors differently.

Are large numbers lost?

No, they are preserved exactly as written and flagged.
