Base64 Encoder & Decoder

Encode text to Base64 or decode it, with base64url, padding removal and 76-character MIME lines, safely handling Arabic and emoji through UTF-8.

Workspace

How the result is calculated

Text is converted to UTF-8 bytes with TextEncoder, then every 3 bytes become 4 symbols from the RFC 4648 alphabet with = padding. base64url replaces +/ with -_. Decoding ignores whitespace, accepts both alphabets and rejects anything invalid (foreign symbols, impossible length, padding in the middle). If the bytes are not valid UTF-8 they are shown as hex.

Limits: Base64 is encoding, not encryption: it does not hide data. The tool handles text only (no files or images). Very large input may slow the browser.

FAQ

Is Base64 safe for secrets?

No, anyone can decode it instantly; use real encryption.

What is the difference between base64 and base64url?

The latter replaces + and / with - and _ so it is safe in URLs and JWT.
